Exercise & Nutrition

I’m almost done with my post about my ride today but my phone died and all of my pics on it.  So here’s a post that’s been in the works for a while now.  Hope your off to a great start this week!  The weather is supposed to be awesome in Central Cali!

It’s been a long time since I did a post about how I fuel on a daily basis to keep up with my very active lifestyle.  I’m not an RD or anything fancy like that but I wanted to share what works for me.

One of the biggest things is for me to have 4 or 5 small meals/snacks/kid food.  I prefer to snack on a little bit of everything.  I also like easily digestible foods like fresh fruit, bread & salads. 

I don’t like large meals because I usually feel too stuffed and sleepy.  I like to feel energized and ready to take on my next project.  Also I never nap.  I have a ton of energy to get me through the day.

I have the same breakfast every single morning.  The first thing I grab is a huge glass of water, then a banana, 2 slices of toast with Healthy Heart butter & jelly & coffee with cream & sugar.

Then I surf the net, stalk your blogs & go for a run or ride.

I used to feel so sick after a run, but now I’m ready to eat within 5 minutes.

Enter what I call 2nd breakfast around 10:00am.

I usually roll with eggs in some form.  A lot of times I make a burrito with cheese, veggies a ton of hot sauce, some fresh fruit and almost always have chips.  And more water or Gatorade.  This is usually my biggest meal of the day.  *On a side note, a lot of people love chocolate, I love my chips.  I could never do that Atkins/no carbs diet.  I would be so sad without my empty calories.

Sometime in the afternoon I’ll have another snack.  It varies but it’s usually fresh fruit, Greek yogurt, string cheese, more chips, applesauce, cottage cheese, a Larabar or Pure Bar.

And since I’m an 80 year old trapped in a 30 year olds body, I usually eat dinner between 4:00 & 5:00.  Yes, I know I’m lame.  There’s a special place for people like me.  😉

I love grilled boneless, skinless chicken breast.  So I stick with a grilled chicken salad or have it with rice & a side of veggies.  Steamed fresh spinach, artichokes and baked potatoes are my favorites!

I love fresh juice too!

Mike’s on the road a lot but when he is home, he’s the chef/grill master & has some major talent!

He’s a huge meat lover (which I don’t mind at all) so we’ll have NY steaks, burgers, pork chops & my favorite smoked chicken.  We also have pasta, fajita’s, ground turkey tacos, soups, stir-fry, 

My favorite foods I’d also like to include are pizza, sandwiches, Ramen Noodle soup & a bunch more!

Since I’m a stalker & love it when other bloggers post pictures of what’s in their fridge, I thought I’d snap a few of mine.   

 

My day can seriously not start without a banana.  I have one with breakfast every single day.  Oh and the non spotty one’s make me so happy.  🙂
