Workout: 1 hour PT

Our entire future was changed in one of the best ways possible.

Mike started his career in the bay area.

It all started in the summer of 2010 when he was 1 of 26 veterans who were accepted into a 10 week program.  Over 600 applied, we knew it was a long shot, but hey they have to pick someone.

You may read the post I wrote the day he was hired here.

After graduating in August, it took a solid year & a half of hard work and not giving up to finally catch a break.

I’ll never forget driving up to Millbrae the day before his interview.  We went to Hooters, of all places for dinner.  Mike had a huge beer to settle his nerves.

We got back to our hotel and I asked him, where his interview clothes, (the only thing he was responsible for by the way) were.

He just looked at me.  Haha I’ll never forget it.  He took his time to iron them perfectly, hung them up in the doorway of our bedroom and forgot to put them in the car.

A semi intoxicated mad dash to Kohl’s and he was ready for the interview.

I wasn’t expecting to tell that story, but I got a kick out of reliving it, so it’s staying.

Anyway the next morning he dropped me off at Starbucks on Laurel street in San Carlos.

I’ll never forget what he said as I was getting out of the car.

“I’ll probably get this job because it’s the only place we don’t want to be, uh.”

I laughed and said “yeah, that’s exactly what I was thinking too.”

Before wishing him good luck.

After what seemed like forever, he finally came back to get me and I could already tell by the look on his face he got the job.

Of course we had to wait a few days to find out for sure.  But we both knew the answer before we drove up to the bay area.

Now every time I drive by that Starbucks on Laurel, I think of that day.  Every single sacrifice Mike made to get us here.

Sometimes I stop in for a cup of coffee just to relive that day, even though it’s usually out of my way.

Now don’t get me wrong, it’s not our ideal place to live, (we’re country folks) but the reason why we’re here is far more important.

We can’t wait to see where the future takes us next!

I couldn’t be more proud of my husband.

His hard work and dedication to his highly dangerous job amazes me every single day.  It makes me feel so good knowing he’s proud of what he does too.
