Running is starting to feel natural

I’m not trying to jinx things, but I am absolutely amazed at the progress I’ve made over the last few months. 

I was almost to the point of giving up on my dream of running another half marathon.

And then sometime this month everything just started clicking.

My arches started to feel better very slowly.  And when I say slowly, I mean it.  They are still not back to normal but the progress made has been significant.   

Surprisingly I’m totally okay with it.  If I’m feeling off, I don’t mind taking a rest day.

On the flip side I don’t want to use it as an excuse to be lazy and skip out on a few training runs.

It’s a delicate balance and so far I think I’m doing just fine.

My hamstring is feeling much better too. 

I’ve learned a lot though.  If my arches hurt or ache, I’ve hit the point of overdoing it.  It sucks because there’s only one way to find out I’ve reached my limit.  And then I have to take a few weeks off to let them recover.  And basically start over again.

After learning the hard way, when I started running again, I did so very, very slowly.  I may be over cautious, because Jeff was pushing me (nicely) to increase my mileage, but I didn’t feel comfortable with it.  He was very understanding and we met in the middle.

For the first time yesterday, running felt so natural to me.  It wasn’t a long run or easy, but I finally felt like body “get’s” it.  If that makes sense.

No pain, it didn’t take long to get into my groove, I just felt great!

I did 2.25 miles and felt amazing.

I’m starting to feel like my old self again, which makes me so happy I could…never mind. 

Not that running defines who I am, but it is something that I love and for so long wasn’t able to do.

Now if only I can work on consistently cross training and strength training.

One day at a time.

  1. Glad you’re starting to get back into it. I hurt my foot, and was suffering from some serious shin splints when I took off running to study for the bar. It feels AMAZING when you start to get back into your old groove again!
