I’ma be a Mermaid & Volunteering

After loosing my little friend, Catherine in August, I knew I wanted to continue to help older folks.  For my new readers, I was a volunteer to do grocery shopping for her.  She was truly the highlight of my week.

This morning after I finished getting dressed for the day, I looked into the mirror and said, Catherine today, I’m going to pay it forward for you.

So I went to meet my new gentleman.  He asked where I was taking him and I told him anywhere you wanna go.

While pushing his shopping cart around Whole Foods, I couldn’t help but think, this is exactly my goal.  Helping these folks live in the house they’ve lived in for years, maintain their freedom and having someone to chat with.

While I’m not sure he needs to be on this program, since he has family close by that helps him, it was nice to get him out of the house an walk around.

I was telling Mike about it and I feel like Catherine was my first client and she has an extra special place in my heart.  As cheesy as it sounds, it’s kinda like your loosing first love, you get over it, but all others are compared to your first .  If that makes any sense at all??

Oh hey, just in case you get lost out on the course…

In case you missed it, the race I’m doing is a 1.5 mile run, 12 mile (hilly) bike and 2.5 mile run.

Random crap:

We saw a guy weeding the cracks in the curbs on super busy El Camino this evening.

What a good Samaritan he is.  Ha!

To torture yourself even more with the foam roller, just add a Jack.

Your turn:

Because I obviously love random stuff, tell me something.  Anything!

Have you ever volunteered?  What did you do?

  1. I used to volunteer at Birth Choice, a place where pregnant women/teens receive support if they decide to have the baby…classes, help with clothes, diapers, etc. I want to volunteer at an animal shelter but afraid I’ll wanna bring all the pups home with me!!

    Good luck at your race!

    • That’s wonderful!! I feel the same way about the pups. If I had my way, I’d have 20 dogs…although it’d probably cost me my marriage. Ha!

  2. I’ve done a lot of volunteering, but currently the biggest thing I do volunteer wise is run a girl scout troop. Thanks for the fun post. Who doesn’t love random stuff?
