The drive back home was beautiful & traffic free. Winning.
Well until we hit the countryside of Los Banos and was covered in Tule fog.
We stopped at Starbucks at the edge of town to use the restroom & grab a cup of coffee.
But we picked up the Lu and made it to grandma Lucille’s house in time for the sun to come out and to watch her put the finishing touches on Thanksgiving supper.
She asked Mike if he wanted to cut the turkey with a dull knife. Ha! Everyone knows dull knives are his pet peeve and somehow my family never feels the need to sharpen them. It’s actually quite funny.
I went around taking pictures because that’s what I do. Well that & eat.
Grandmas famous Pecan Pie.
She makes it from scratch every year. Neat story…the first Thanksgiving Mike & I were together he told grandma how much he loved her Pecan Pie. So that Christmas she made one just for him. Ever since, she makes him one for Thanksgiving & another for Christmas. And of course Mike gives her a hard time saying I’m not coming over if you don’t have my pie. And give me my pie in the Cartman voice. Ha! But she knows he just messing with her. 🙂
I love that grandmas not fancy at all. She doesn’t decorate, we eat off paper plates and enjoy making fun of each other.
My plate with my 2 favorites, turkey gravy and cranberries.
My dining partners. Angry Indian & Lu.
Then my sweet niece, Alexa hung out with her Pumpkin Pie. I was a little bitter she wouldn’t share with me. But the baby snuggles made up for it. 🙂
After lunch, we went through Black Friday ads and drew names. Our family is so big now, it makes it a lot easier. We’ll still shop for the kids and do stalking stuffers.
Then we went back to Dinuba to hang out with Mikes dad & grandmother. She’s not expected to make it much longer so it was really nice to see her.
I don’t drink, but was handed a glass of wine. I took a few sips and passed the rest to Mike.
Then the goofyness ensued.
Mike’s a little bitter his daughter is almost as tall as he is. She’s 12 and wears a size 8 shoe. Craziness!
I usually do Black Friday, but I didn’t see anything in the ad’s that made me want to fight the crowds in the cold & fog. So I opted to sleep in, have breakfast with Mike & run.
I’m stoked to hit up my old stomping ground for a run as soon as I hit publish.
Lot’s more fun to come today. I’m pretty excited about it!
I hope you all had a wonderful turkey day!
Did you hit up the Black Friday shopping scene? If so, did you catch a good deal?
When do you put up your Christmas tree?
We usually do around the first week of December.
Does your tree have a theme?
Ours is snowflakes, blue, silver & white.
