Jalapeno & jack cheese tamale recipe

We were up bright & early at 5:45 ready to have some more fun. 

Got to ma & pa’s early and had coffee then made egg, Canadian bacon & cheese sandwiches on English muffins.  They were so good, I’m going to have to make them at home.

Then we got started prepping to make white people tamales while the corn husks soaked.

I sliced 6 pounds of cheese.  That equals 118 slices.  My Type A personality told me so.

While ma sliced the jalapenos.

I’m not sure about this, but I don’t think traditional tamales are made with cheese.  But every year we’ve made jalapeno & jack cheese tamales and they are everyone’s favorite, so that is why I call them white people tamales.  Bonus, they are the easiest to make.

So pa, grandma Jo & I got to work.

We spread room temperature masa, add cheese & jalapenos.

Then roll ‘em up like so.

And steam them.  Pa say’s 90 minutes, no peeking.

Don’t think I mentioned it on the blog, but my parents live right next door to my grandma Lucille.  <-my mom’s mother.  Oh and grandma Jo is my dad’s mother, just in case you were wondering.

So in between batches (we also made pulled pork with black olives) I went to grandma Lucille’s house to see what she was up to.

Turns out she just finished making bacon & fried potato’s for lunch.  

She forced offered me some and of course that wasn’t hard to convince me.  She happily made more for my uncle Charlie while I ate his portion.  Don’t worry he kindly yelled at me to have his portion.  It was so funny because as I was chowing down, I was telling uncle Charlie how good his lunch tasted.  I’m a peach like that.  😉

After lunch I recruited grandma Lucille to come help us.

Then we went back to grandma Lucille’s house to make something top secret.  I’ll tell you about it after Christmas.

I’m beat, so I’m going to chill out in bed and watch a movie.

Tamales and mom’s pumpkin cake.  I’ll have to get her recipe and share it with you.  It’s one of my favorites and I don’t even like pumpkin.  Gasp!
