It’s okay to laugh with me

How’s your Saturday morning going?

I’m taking it easy this morning, my stomach is being a punk right now.

Anyway we had a wild Friday night over here, downloading Better Dig Two by The Band Perry and trying to figure out how the heck to navigate iTunes.  At least once you figure it out, it makes sense but dang they don’t make it easy.

Mike had a long week at work and laying low sounded perfect for the both of us.

You guys, I knew I lost a lot of my fitness being injured but I didn’t realize how much until I looked at my splits from yesterday’s 5 mile run and saw nothing but positive splits.

2  9:09

3  9:25

4  9:35

5  9:43

Time: 46:56

Average pace per mile: 9:23

Bahahaha! You totally have permission to laugh with me!

For my new runner friends, a positive split means that you run each mile slower than the last.  Usually when running, you should aim to have negative splits.  Where you start out slow & slowly increase your speed.  Which would be called negative splits.

Because I’m a numbers geek, let’s compare it with my 10K PR.

1  7:59

2  8:07

3  8:08

4  8:06

5  8:07

6  8:07

.16  1:08

Time:  49:51

APPM:  8:05

Big difference, huh.

So what this tells me is, that I have a lot of work to do.  Super fun work too!

I think I will use yesterdays run as a baseline for training this season.  I hope I don’t seem like I’m complaining because it’s quite the opposite.  One (of a gazillion) reason why running excites me is seeing my progress.  As long as I continue training, I can only get better and faster.  Everyone has to start somewhere, right!?

Here’s to a happy, injury free & successful 2013 training season!!

Do you pay attention to your splits?

What’s on your playlist?  I want to steal your ideas!

Please tell me your Friday night was way more exciting than mine!

Dude you rock !! I get excited when I run an 11 minute mile !! Lol that’s usually my average! Although I more than likely will always run that pace you inspire me to embrace it & keep going anyway !

    • I don’t think your pace matters as much as consistency and as long as your improving, even if it takes some time, that’s what matters. :) Keep running my friend!

  2. I’ve really been focusing on negative splits lately. I get so excited when I run them! You’ve got it in you, I know it!
