Get comfortable being uncomfortable

Happy Friday!!  Anyone else doing the Friday dance?  We don’t have any plans for the weekend, but I’m really excited for some unknown reason.  Maybe it’s because I spent all day yesterday spring cleaning.  I even shampooed the couch & carpets.

I’m getting ready to do my long run and I started thinking about how I can improve my cardio fitness level to be able to run at a consistent pace.  I know I can do it, but want to feel confident in my abilities.

I’m going to start by turning one of my 3 mile training runs into 4 or 5 miles.  You see I’ve gotten pretty comfortable with that distance.  It’s safe and easy, I know I’m not subjecting myself to injury.

But I’m not really growing as a runner.

It’s time to redefine my comfort level because growth comes from discomfort.

It’s time!

  • I’m not injured
  • I’m strength training like a rock star
  • I’m strong enough
  • I have the time
  • I’m have the will
  • I like pain
  • I am ready

I am looking forward to all of the pain hard work it takes to cross the finish line at my next half marathon, whatever that might be.

What are you going to do to make yourself uncomfortable?

What is your next goal?

Do you like pain?

I’ve been doing more strength training & man am I uncomfortable. But I know it will help my running. Enjoy your weekend skinny chick :)

  2. I am using the Train Like A Mother Own It plan for my next Half Marathon in May,I would like to improve on my time from last year. I am doing all of my training on a treadmill this year due to being in Michigan temporarily, all of this is different! Ready for the challenge!

    • I’ve never heard of that plan. Sounds interesting, is it a book? Major props for keeping up your running. I have family in MI and, man you guys are tough!

  3. Sorry, one more thing! What is the name of the app you use to edit your photos like above? I remember you telling us all weeks ago but alas in one ear out the other.

    • No worries, it’s pixlr.com I’ve heard good things about picmonkey.com too but haven’t played with it much.

      • Thank you! I kept searching for it but realized why don’t I just ask?! The plan is a book called Train Like A Mother and they have plans for running a 5k all the way to the marathon. You can chose between either the Finish It Plan or the Own It Plan. I just finished my 10 miles on the treadmill this morning, never thought I would miss the Oregon rain as much as I do!

  4. I love your attitude! Upping those short runs is a good way to pack on the mileage and up your comfort range.

  5. It’s true, we have to be uncomfortable to grow bigger & better than we previously were! Nice work on having things mapped out. And I’m jealous of your cleaning, want to swing by my place ;)

  6. I’m training for my first trail ultra – a 50k in June. I’m really excited and really nervous about it. It’s definitely a huge change to my normal routine (I haven’t even run a marathon yet), but I’m up to the challenge. I’ve recently added hill repeats to my weekly workouts to get ready for all the killer hills on the trails.

  7. Good luck with increasing your mileage!

  8. I’ve been trying to get of my comfort zone by taking surfing lessons. It isn’t a massive feat physically but I have had a fear of a water since almost drowning a few years back.

Being in the cold water does burn a ton of calories though!
