It’s cycling season!!
I love to cross train on my bike, but refuse to ride when it’s cold outside. It’s not like running. The faster I go, the colder I get. I’m a wussmeister what can I say.
But the weather is warming up and I have a race to train for, so now is the time to start thinking about getting out there.
Last spring when I was a broken runner, I cross trained on my bike. I had a couple friends show me the ropes since I still consider myself a newbie plus I was very new to the bay area. They took me to the most incredible place to ride in the bay area. I’ll never forget our several rides there. It’s a heavily cycled road, they even close a portion of it down every Sunday for “Cycle Sunday.” Don’t quote me, but I think it goes from 9:00am to 3:00pm.
If you live in the area or visiting, I would definitely recommend doing this ride!
We started our 27 mile ride on Canada (pernounced Ken-yada) Road and Freeway 92 and went south through Woodside, CA to Sand Hill Road. Of course you can start anywhere, this is just where we met up.
Woodside has a woodsy feel, but is also really close to big cities and Freeway 280. It’s also home to deer, Maserati’s, and a few celebrities like Michelle Pfeiffer.
One of my little grandma’s favorites Shirley Temple.
And CEO’s like Larry Ellison, owner of Oracle, along with a bunch of others.
I’d say this ride is not for beginners, although it’s not incredibly tough, there are a lot of rolling hills.
I was a beginner and they shredded me, causing a hamstring injury. But that’s a whole other story. Why do I love pain so much!?
The scenery will totally take your mind off all the pain and suffering.
There are also a lot of dirt trails on the side to run, walk or ride your horse.
It’s a two lane road, so I’d recommend going with a buddy. Plus it’s a lot more fun!
Well I guess it’s time to stop thinking about riding and actually do it!
Do your cycle?
Tell me about your favorite ride!
Do you know of any celebrities who live close to you?
Ever met a celeb?

This looks absolutely wonderful! A little bit jealous you get to have that area close by
Enjoy the beautiful spring and your rides/runs!
First time I came to the US I flew in to LA and then road tripped up the coast all the way up to the Canadian border.. I fell MADLY in love with California (of course, right?!) and am dreaming about getting a chance to explore the state some more. You’re lucky!
What a trip you had!! That sounds incredible. I have to say your pictures of Hawaii on Instagram are amazing. I’m pretty much jealous of the year round sunshine and warmth.
Your ride looks awesome! My mom grew up real close to Woodside…so I am a little familiar with the area.
Yes! I cycle a lot! I live in Rain country(Portland, OR)…so I have been confinded to my trainer for too long. It was gorgeous out today! We hit some flat road to a 2.5 mile(real tough) climb…then did lots of rollers…and finished on a flat.
Oh wow, you are a rock star for cycling those hills!! Isn’t Woodside incredible!? Happy riding!
That sounds like a beautiful ride. I haven’t gotten into cycling but I’ve toyed with the idea of it. I’d have to figure out if I really love it or not before I’d want to purchase a bike since cycling (like running) can be pretty expensive.
Yes, cycling is way more expensive than running. I’ve heard you can find great deals on craigslist. I got really lucky and a friend of ours let me borrow the bike before we bit the bullet.
I’ll have to take a look.
I’m not much of a biker. I do have a cheap bike that I like to get out on when the weather is nice. It’s SO relaxing and a perfect way to just enjoy a gorgeous day. I’m excited it’s warming up too, FINALLY!
You are so right! There’s nothing like a nice cruise around in the warm sunshine. Hope you warm up soon.
I have a road bike that hasn’t been on the road since I bought it. ha. Quite frankly, I am scared of riding on the road. I have known several people who gotten seriously injured (one killed) while on rides by motorists.
I always try to avoid the area on Sunday due to the sheer number of cyclists going up to 92 on Paige Mill and Sand Hill.
I’ve ridden out there once for a memorial ride and some of the hills on the “easy” road were pretty rough. I would love to go out there again and ride. Though with a group. Lol.
I’ve ridden my mountain bike out in Alviso and over on the Guadalupe River Trail but nothing else.
I totally agree with you on the heavily cycled roads. I’m much more comfortable on trails. Let me know if you ever want to ride!
Can we go on a bicycle ride (once ski season is over)? I’m a newbie but I have a decent road bike and would love to explore the nearby bike-friendly roads!
You have no idea how much I would LOVE to ride with you!! Anytime friend!
