May goals & Instagram link up

It’s Thursday!!  Wahoo!  Oh wait Mike’s working this weekend.  Oh well I guess someone in this house has to work.  Bam doesn’t have thumbs and he can’t read so I guess it has to be Mike.

After Tuesday’s craptastic run I took it as a sign to take a full rest day on Wednesday.  Why is it so hard to not workout?  I felt like I should at least do a little strength training, but talked myself out of it and cleaned the house instead.

I’m ready to get back out there today!

If you follow me on Instagram, then you already know the good news.

59 miles running

32.5 cycling

I’m back to my pre injury running mileage and it feels so good!!  Incredible actually!!

(at the finish line after riding the metric century in the CA Classic 2011)

I was injured for so long that I learned to not set goals because when I did I had to back out.  I want to get out of that mindset and set a few attainable late spring/summer goals.

  • Complete the CA Classic at the end of this month.  I’m coming to the tail end of training for this and I’m really excited about it.  I just need to get in those last few confidence building long rides & runs.
  • Start trail running.  Just like trying anything new, I plan to ease into this.  I don’t think I will fully transition into it (I love running flat half marathons) but I really want to give it a shot.  There are tons of trails I want to explore and I think running it would be so fun.
  • Do a late summer trail race.  I’m thinking 5 miles or a 10K.  If you’re in the bay area and know of a good one, please let me know.  Bonus points if you want to run it with me and have coffee after.  Winking smile
  • I’m thinking about trading in my road bike for a mountain bike.  Any thoughts on this?
  • Find a race along the Central Coast. This has proved to be a little harder than I anticipated.
  • Continue staying in half marathon shape.
  • Find a fall half marathon.

I’m sure I’ll be adding a few more things along the way but I feel like it’s a good start.

In other news the Nuun addiction continues…

I hear the Cherry Limeade is killer so I can’t wait to give it a try.  Plus it has my friend, caffeine.

Something to think about:

How many miles did you train in April?

What are your late spring/summer goals?

Let’s do a social media link up!  Leave your Instagram handle if you have one.

  1. Woohoo on all those miles! I think I might be the only person who doesn’t like Nuun. I have 4 lonely tubes sitting in my pantry. Want them?
My goals are to keep running a lot so I’ll be ready for Chicago, and also to run a few 5k races to work on my speed!

  2. congrats that is so exciting!!!! I did 55 semi-injured miles this month so may needs to be a low mileage month for me. I am in 100% agreement about how difficult it is to rest. yikes I am bad at sitting still. my IG is nerriy and I’m headed over there to follow you now. Woohoo!

    • Resting is so hard, but really it’s so worth it if your injured. Here’s to hoping your on the mend now. Have a great day!

  3. Way to go!! I feel your pain…rest days have a way of getting in my head & making me anxious. I’m learning to enjoy them. Thats awesome that you are feeling back to your usual. My goals for spring/summer are to work on speed and PR my June half marathon and then my Oct full marathon. Fingers crossed 🙂

    • Seriously, why is it so hard to do nothing!? Ha! Good luck on PRing. I want to hear all about it. And holy smokes, a full marathon. You are a rock star!!

      • Thanks, you too! I ran my first marathon last fall…crazy fun experience so I’m hoping to be ready for another this fall.
Thanks for the link the other day…about the kiddos, I have to check it out!

  4. Yay! Good for you. I did 81 (!!!) miles of walking and running in April. Pretty sure that’s a record for me. My spring goal is to complete a half marathon on May 26th ( without being in complete pain like I was last year. So far the training is going great!

    I’m kristiewsimpson on Instagram.

    • 81 miles!! Whoa you are amazing! Here’s to crossing the finish line feeling like a million bucks.

  5. We must be in a similar running groove cause my running for April totaled 57.2 miles! You should definitely check out Quicksilver trails in Almaden for some great running/hiking trails. I’ll be on the look out for late summer trail races, I wouldn’t mind doing one as well.

Added caffeine is always a plus. I love the Clif Energy Gus because they have added caffeine!

  6. Congrats!!! I ran a total of 57 miles in April. My mileage was down due to the marathon in the first week of April. I’ve been taking it easy since then. I’d love to do a trail race with you. I walked a 5K trail race with some friends the week after my marathon, and I was itching to run it. Definitely a different experience and if there’s one thing I think is needed, it’s a trail running shoe :). As for the cycling. I’m getting ready to start down that route too. Bike sale season is quickly approaching so I’m hoping to get a good deal and then start working on setting some cycling goals.

Fall Half Marathons – I’m doing Nike, but there’s also the San Jose Rock n Roll and Brazen does a lot of races too.

    • I’m so happy you took some time off after your marathon. You mart. Let me know when you get a bike, I’d love a cycling buddy.

  7. My April milage was 62.25 miles
My goal right now is to make it through the Niagara Falls Women’s 1/2 marathon on June 2nd – feeling good.

  8. I have no idea how many miles for April! I used to keep track of it religiously & then decided to just “RUN” without keeping track. Goals for this May are to decide if I’ll do a half in the Fall & also run more outside. I’m at kepotts on IG 🙂

    • The Type A in me is tormented by the fact that you didn’t keep track of your mileage. Haha! But I can totally see how freeing it would be. I would imagine it’s like running without a Garmin. Maybe I’ll have to try it sometime. I like your laid back style. 🙂

  9. Nothing feels better than being back in “pre-injury” shape!! You go girl!! Congrats!

  10. So happy you are feeling better and injury free. I am training for a marathon (which is in 24 days!!) so I did 156 miles in April which I find to be unbelievable if I didn’t just go back and check it again! My goal is to finish my marathon with a PR and have a fun time doing it! My summer goal is to get a good tan!! You mentioned getting a mountain bike…you may want to keep both bikes. I have a mountain bike and wish it were a road bike. You use very different muscles mountain biking. It’s fun but not an everyday sport.

    • Whoa 156 miles! That is rock star status right there. What is your current marathon PR? Thanks for the bike advise. I’m not a huge fan on cycling but it’s really great to cross train with. I’ll keep that in mind.

      • My current marathon PR is 4:05. My goal at my next race is to break 4. I would like to get into road riding for cross training but I need the hubby to agree with buying me a road bike!

  11. Awesome mileage! I think I might be the only person who doesn’t like Nuun. I have 4 lonely tubes sitting in my pantry. Want them?
My goal this Spring is to run a sub 30 5k race! I think I can, I think I can!!

  12. annieq1013

My goal is to run at least once (post ankle recovery), no matter the time/distance!

    • Good for you getting back out there! Good luck and please make sure you pop over and tell me how it goes.

  13. i honestly don’t know just how many miles I have done in april. I think maybe around 30? it’s been a rough month on all levels and hope may brings in some good vibes and good runs. I got the avenue of the giants 1/2 marathon this sunday 🙂

  14. Loved reading your goals! Its inspring hearing other people’s goals. Check out blog for my goals tomorrow!

  15. Congrats to you! Ugh for me. I’m still recovering from injury. So my goal is to bounce back slow and smart. I think I can. I think I can… 🙂 Instagram aplacetoreside

    • You are very smart for coming back slow. My PT ninja still tells me I’m a little too conservative, and he’s probably right but I don’t want to find out the hard way. Here’s to a speedy recovery for you.

    • Yes, let’s do it!! Thanks for hanging out with me today. It’s always nice seeing your pretty face.

  16. I’m getting more on my (real) bike too, now that the weather’s warm. IG: apkussma

  17. Mountain biking and trail running are my summer sports. But, when I can’t get to the trails I still hit the road from outside my front door—both running and biking. My advice? Keep the road bike, as you will still want those fun, smooth fast rides and buy a used mountain bike on Craigslist to hit the trails with. I promise you will become addicted. I’m not on Instagram because I have a stupid phone.

    • Thanks for the advise, I’ll keep it in mind. I don’t love cycling as much as I do running, but it’s great for cross training.

  18. puts on a lot of trail runs and they are fantastic!!! Majority of the runs are in the East Bay. They are little (1000 runners maybe?), but the quality and effort they put out makes you think they are apart of the big race companies (rundisney, nike, Boston, etc.). Oh, and instagram: Attemptedrunner. Already following you!

    • I did a Brazen race in Jan, Coyote Hills and totally agree with you. I tend to like smaller races so this sounds perfect. Thank you so much for the advise. Happy running!

  19. I did almost 350 mile for the month!! A huge number for me. 164 of that was running and the rest was biking from my commute to work.

You should absolutely do a trail race and start trail running! It’s incredible!! It’s not a late summer race, but you should sign up for the North Face Endurance Challenge in SF. I have never done that one, but I did the half marathon in DC last year and I’m doing the 50k this year. They have everything from 5ks-50 milers and they are really well put together.

    • I seriously said whaaaat after reading your first 2 sentences. Girl you are freaking amazing! Just wow.
I’ve heard the same thing about the NF events, I’ll have to check them out. I think my PT ninja is doing it. Thanks for the heads up.

  20. My goals are to be running in 6 weeks! Today is my first full day of being able to walk!!

Trail runs are awesome! Don’t let my broken ankle tell you otherwise.

    My Instagram handle: whinelessbreathemore

    • I can not wait for you to run again. I’ve been stalking you and I’m so happy you are able to walk again. How did it go?

  21. Hooray for no-injury big miles! I ran 71 miles this month, and that makes me very happy. First half marathon on May 25! I’ll probably run a 10K in the fall. Happy running!

  22. I got this web page from my friend who told me regarding this web page and at the moment
this time I am browsing this site and reading very informative articles at this place.

  23. I feel this is among the so much significant information for me.
And i am satisfied reading your article. But wanna remark on few common things,
The website taste is wonderful, the articles is really
nice : D. Good task, cheers
