Simple things Sunday: friends & family

Good Sunday morning to you!!

Today was all about sleeping in, sipping coffee at a snails pace while stalking Instagram for race updates.  Just the way I like it.

I didn’t intend for the simple things Sunday series to go on this long, but I’m really digging it.  Feel free to use the above pic and do the same on your blog.  Be sure you link back to me so I can read it!

Here we go!

I am thankful that Thanksgiving is right around the corner.  I love the holiday season and I’m really looking forward to seeing my family.  Oh plus my little grandma’s Birthday is 2 days before Thanksgiving this year.  I can’t wait to celebrate my favorite person on the planet!

Grandma, if you’re reading this, close your eyes and scroll down.  I will know if you don’t because you suck at lying.  Winking smile

Speaking of grandma, I can not wait to give her this Clif pecan pie bar I picked up at the Fitness mag event.  It’s her favorite pie and I just know she’s going to love it.  Along with the pecan pie soda I picked up a couple weeks back.

I have big plans to get grandma sugar wasted.

Throwback: when Mike & I started dating, I brought him home for our first Thanksgiving together.  He told her how much he loved her pecan pie, so every year since (10 years now) she makes 2 pies, 1 for Mike and 1 for everybody else.  She even has a pecan tree in her backyard and fights the squirrels for just enough to make a couple pies every year.  Then dries & shells them.  It’s quite the process, but she loves doing it.

Earlier this week while standing on the curb at the hotel, waiting for my car, I thought to myself, I have arrived, I’m just living.  Yeah I was totally that nerd with a goofy smile.

After struggling for much of my life with debilitating anxiety, I finally feel like I’m at the place I’ve always wanted to be and finally overcame that punk.  It meant so much when Mike & I were talking on the phone about it and he said “J I’m proud of you.”

I didn’t mean to ramble on about that-it was totally the coffee’s fault.

I’m thankful for friends who are happy to take you under their wing and help you in way’s you can never repay them. You know who you are…….

What are 4 things/people you thankful for today?

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?

Check Instagram.  I need an intervention.

  1. Oh anxiety, that full on can’t breathe; can’t see; my heart is going to stop any second now. I get it and celebrate the moments when I can just be in a moment without it. I am grateful everyday that I found running (or it found me?), for my Mister, my two Bigs and one Little, my home on the Island.

Happy Birthday to your Grandma, she sounds lovely!

    • Running cures everything, right!? I wish y’all could meet my gma, she is truly the most amazing woman I know. Thanks for your kind words.

  2. I have battled anxiety as well…and stress seems to activate these days. Running sure has helped with it though. I am proud of you too….it’s hard to be the anxiety punk!!!

First thing I do in the morning is start the coffee maker and track down my fave mug.

  4. I always start my weekend mornings with a cup of coffee, reading blogs, and then heading to a group fitness class. I have the same routine pretty much every weekend and I love it!

I am thankful for my dad who is helping us pick up a treadmill we just bought off Craigslist because there’s no way hubby and I could move it by ourselves. I’m thankful to have family close by!

The first thing I do (after putting on my workout clothes) – take 2 Excedrine (every single morning) – my DR says it is rebound since that is basically my caffeine for the day!

  6. I am thankful for my hubs, family, an awesome job, and amazing friends.

  8. Haha, it’s a tie between checking instagram and reading a few blogs that come through my email first thing in the morning. My excuse is that I’m “warming up my eyes.”
