Christmas 2013

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.  Santa was really good to us this year and I really enjoyed spending time with the family.

We drove into town early Christmas Eve so grandma, Lu & I could do some baking.  You know a recipe that calls for 4 sticks of butter + 2 cups of sugar is going to be a winner.  Yah, it’s like that.

We used this recipe to make homemade toffee.  I’m not a fan of nuts {TWSS} so I 86’ed ‘em.  I didn’t try it, but I think it was a hit.  We got several compliments on it.

Then we baked ooey gooey caramel filled chocolate cookies from Iowa Girl Eats.  I don’t read many food blogs, but this girl is one of my favorites.  These babies are totally SCB approved.

I’m a huge fan of cheese cake so I knew a fellow CC lover had to dream up a recipe for cookies.  These sprinkle cream cheese cookies are where it’s at!  Oh my gosh they rocked my face off.  I have big plans to make another batch this week.  All for ma belly.

Lu & I wrapped them in tissue paper and put a little of everything in cutesy little boxes with chalk labels that said Merry Christmas!  It was a fun, inexpensive gift for the family.

Then we went next door to ma & pa’s for Christmas Eve appetizers with the family.  It’s kind of a tradition, although ma tries to break tradition every year.  What’s wrong with her?

Don’t answer that.

My cousin May’s husband is in the Army and is serving overseas so she + second cousin Cierra came home for Christmas. I could not wait to see them!

I chat with her on Facebook almost every day, so it was really nice to see her pretty face & catch up even more.  The internet invention is kinda awesome.

I was so ready for bed by the time we made it to the hotel that night.  I did manage to watch approximately 23 minutes of the Ralphy marathon before I crashed.

We had an early wake up call to have breakfast with my favorite father in law ever.  Mike offered to buy breakfast.  Uh okay smart guy, it’s free at the hotel since nothing’s open.  I don’t know weather to be amused or embarrassed.  Don’t worry, my FIL wouldn’t expect anything else outta that boy.

Then it was back to ma & pa’s for Christmas + grandmas for lunch which was amazing!  It’s a proven fact that a squeeze of a freshly picked lemon off grandmas tree is the only way to eat turkey.  You are not allowed to argue with me on this.

You know it’s a great Christmas when grandma gives you whipped cream shots.

And uhh what is going on in this picture?

Blair’s love for Baby Alive might be questionable, at least we were entertained.

We made it back home just in time to watch the sunset while driving along Highway 1.  I miss home sometimes, but I freaking love it here.

It was the perfect end to a great day.  Especially when we stepped out of the car and got a whiff of fireplace fires & the salty sea air.

Tell me about your Christmas day?

What was you favorite gift?

  1. My Christmas was wonderful spending it with family 🙂 You can’t ask much more than that! Oh and santa was also really nice to us! Glad you all had a great Christmas!

  2. Your day sounds fabulous! The turkey dinner plate looks exactly how I like mine..all homey and delicious! I would cartwheel if I could grow a lemon tree in my backyard. I miss that about CA, for sure!
We had a super quiet day at home. With a new baby I didn’t feel like going out in the cold and traveling. So family had to come to us if they wanted to see us this year 🙂

  3. I love lemons so now I really want to try that with turkey! My day was really low-key since we do most of our celebrating on Christmas Eve and leave just presents for Christmas day. I love it that way though, just family and opening and playing with the new toys, which in my case meant taking my new compression socks out for an inaugural run 😉 so glad you had a great holiday!

  4. Looks like you had a great day! I HAVE to try those cream cheese cookies…like NOW. Unfortunately I don’t have the ingredients in the house right now but it is totally happening this weekend!

P.S. Baby ALive things have always kind of creeped me out. I prefered my regular baby dolls and used my imagination for those “alive” things.

  5. So glad you had such a wonderful Christmas! We also had a really great day/week. My fave gift was a lululemon gift card from the hubs. I never shop there because it is out of my price range, so it was fun to be able to go and try stuff on and buy things guilt free.
