Carry on

We spent the last day of our beach town hopping trip in SLO.  Before we headed there, we went to IHOP for breakfast.  Mike is kinda obsessed with their harvest nut + grain pancakes and I’m addicted to unlimited coffee, so it was a win.

Then we headed back to the beach house to clean + wrap up loose ends.

Since Bam + I matched the butterfly, we had to stop and snap a pic.  Dude was not a fan of this idea if you can’t tell by the look on his face.  How will he ever make it through his little life?

We walked past Bubblegum alley where the germophobe in me was thoroughly grossed out.

Since we are 4, a visit the candy shop was at the top of our list.

This chandelier freaking rocks!  I am now thinking of ways to convince Mike we need it over our kitchen table.

I scored a childhood favorite, Pop Rocks.  They even have one that turns into bubble gum.  Neato cheeto.

And wandered around the Mission which is always beautiful to check out, even on a rainy day.

We made it home in time to make a trip up north to pick up my gun.  Apparently after over 3 hours, we were not over being in the car quite yet.  Figures.

About a month ago we picked it up after the 10 day wait and realized the sights were off, so the folks at Smith and Wesson fixed it up.  Now it fires like a champ.

I am looking forward to firing several hundred rounds down range and getting comfortable with it.  I will only be used for personal safety at home.  I hope I’ll never have to use it, but I feel strongly about being able to protect myself.

I refuse to be a victim.

Mike firing his beloved Beretta 9mm that he’s had well over 10 years and swears it’s his favorite.  I thought I was.  Winking smile

I’d say we had a great time at target practice on this evil leprechaun.

I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of driving along Highway 1.  {Moss Landing}

Tell me about something really cool you live near!

What is your favorite childhood candy?

Bubble Tape, Pop Rocks, sour gummy bears + a Mexican chili/lime/salt watermelon sucker which I still love today.  I know I am so weird.

What Mission did you do your report on?

I honestly can’t remember, but Lu did hers on San Miguel.

  1. Haha I walked down the Bubblegum alley in Seattle. I was so grossed out and worried about someone bumping me and getting knocked into the wall. But I still had fun. I loved Ring Pops- which I would never really finish. I would put it in a ziploc bag and then forget about it. Oh and I loved Warheads! PS your post yesterday inspired my post today- thank you 🙂

  2. Childhood favorite is such a toss up. Chocolate charleston chews but frozen and pop rocks are timeless. I have never seen the cotton candy ones in your picture though, maybe they are west coast thing you can’t buy in this ridiculously cold polar Vortex they call New England! Hope they were as fabulous as I assume they were! Keep Rockin’! (Sorry had to say it)

  3. HA !!! I love Harvest Grain and nuts pancakes from I.H.O.P., I always order that when i go there and back when I was in my teen years I worked at I.H.O.P. and if someone made an order mistake on those or their Crepes, I’d be the one eating them hehe.
My childhood candy was: Blow Pops and Lifesavers :p

  4. I am so jealous of your views! Makes me miss the beach house my husband’s family has back in NC. It’s so peaceful there and we used to love going and spending weekends there when we could.

Glad you all had a nice and relaxing weekend!!

  5. Bubble Gum Alley creeped me out. Felt like I needed a shower!!!!! I’m not sure I recommend that chandelier for your house………YOU WOULD EAT IT!!!!! Favorite childhood candy……….Bit O Honey.

  6. The bubble gum alley is nasty – I don’t think I could walk through it!
We live on a lake – since I don’t have a true beach here in Kansas, that is the next best thing.

  7. Hmmm.. Near me the coolest thing is probably the little trail down to the San Joaquin river around the block from my house- I usually am grateful that we are so close to the sequoias and the beach. Good old fresno

  8. i totally love those harvest nut / grain pancakes from IHOP…those and any pancake with blueberry is the best 🙂 my favorite childhood candy has got to be the chick-o-stick…it tastes great, and just sounds cool cuz it has the word ‘chick’ in it.

  9. Even the picture of bubble gum alley grossed me out. I had to cross the street when we were there last summer. It was just too much for my OCD to handle.
I never did a Mission report, but I did get married at the Mission Santa Clara! It was so beautiful. Hmmmm. I live about an hour away from San Francisco, forty five minutes away from Santa Cruz and about an hour an a half to Monterey!
I am a big sour gummy bear fan and please do not lay a finger on my Butterfinger!

  10. I’m in love with those harvest pancakes from IHOP — oh yum. My hubby’s grandma actually went to the trouble to find a recipe for me so we could have them at home 🙂 I’m keeping the image of pancakes in my head rather than the bubble gum wall — grotty. (And good for you for getting comfortable with firing — it’s important to know how to defend yourself!!)
