It was a no go

I did a little disappearing act yesterday. Don’t you worry, it was all for a good cause…

I did a little shopping there and another store then called it a day to rest the paw.

Now let’s back up to Friday because this brined chicken sandwich deserves an honorable mention.

Alvarado Brewery just opened up in downtown Monterey and we have been wanting to check it out. Mike had the peppercorn + coffee crusted steak sandwich and both sanmmiches were really good.

While on our way home we spotted a farmers market. I haven’t been to one since we moved here. Luckily we scored a super close parking spot so I could check it out. Our loot: fresh corn <-a family favorite, cherries, rolls + a handful of figs.

After a rough week of doing nothing <-{now that’s funny!} I was really looking forward to riding in Pebble Beach with a friend on Saturday so I went for an easy ride to see how the paws felt.

Since I am trying to be a smart athlete, I decided it was a no go. The swelling in my right foot was out of control. As soon as I got home I made an ice bath, took 3 Advil while Bam looked at me confused as to why I was acting like a girl.

In the past, I just endured the pain and told myself not to be a pansy. I would end up really hurting myself. I want everyone to know, it takes great restraint for me to look at the beautiful path along the beach and say “no go”.

Major props to anyone who can sit in an ice bath longer than 22 seconds. This sissy la la can’t hang with the cool kids. Y’all deserve a medal and giant cup of coffee.

Tell me something big or small you are looking forward to.

I’m crossing my fingers we can do the ride next weekend.

Have you ever taken an ice bath? If so, teach me your ways Kimosabe.

What did you do yesterday?

    • It’s hit or miss, but I did score a cute running skirt. I’ll share it on the blog this morning. Have a great week!

  1. I don’t even attempt ice baths any more – I hate anything cold!!!
In high school I spent lots of time in an ice bath up to my knees with the electric stim going so that it pulses your leg while in the ice – good times!!!

  2. The ice bath is sooo hard to do, but so worth it! I wear a winter hat and keep a blanet wrapped around my upper body . I can last 5-10 minutes with a few screams 😉

  3. Ok MIA 2 days in a row and I’m putting out a PSA, APB, and Amber, I mean J alert. I’ll be heading up that search party. J, I’m all bout it bout it when it comes to ice baths. Try leaving on your ProCo’s when putting your paw in the bucket. You don’t wanna burn your skin. The sock will at least prevent that with the extra protection. The suggestion about the blanket around your top works too. In AZ, I’ll just go sit on the patio in the sun while soaking my foot. Tan and paw maintenance…Win win.

  4. How is that Lulu outlet? Thinking about stopping on our way to a camping trip in the area.

    • It’s hit or miss. Right now I saw a lot of capri tights and yoga/built in bra tops. They were super cute, but I like to wear my Nike sports bras. I did score a cute skirt. I’ll post about it in a bit.

  5. I did the ice bath once last year…it was not for long…and I just grit my teeth and sat through it…not fun! I am really crossing my fingers…and Indy’s crossing his paws that your paw/s are better soon! You are being really smart about your recovery!!!

  6. PS Girl….I am so proud and inspired by how you have handled your injury and many things in your life. I have nominated you for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award. If you would like to accept this award, please pop on over to my site and have a read. Keep the fantastic pictures and ‘tell it like it is’ posts coming!

  7. I think I can tell your poor foot is swollen through the ice and water! Good call on getting off of that foot, give it a rest! No sense injuring yourself further!

  8. Good for you for trying the ride and good for you for knowing that it was a no go! I really hope your paw is feeling better soooon!! I don’t do ice baths, just can’t do it! Yesterday I went to a lunch bbq then to my sister’s to hang out by her pool 🙂

  9. You might ask your doctor about a temporary handicap parking permit. I felt a bit embarrassed to get one, but being on crutches and really not being able to walk, it was a lifesaver. It made simple things, such as getting groceries, bearable. Good luck, hope you feel better soon!
