Some life updates

Good Sunday morning!! I hope you are enjoying the weekend. Is anyone getting excited about Thanksgiving? It’s also my grandma’s Birthday so it’ll be extra special this year.

It’s been awhile since I last checking into the world of SCB, so let’s bring you up to date with what’s been going on around here.

  • It’s officially the off season!! When the time changes, the course slows down and get to take the winter off. I’ll go back for a couple large events and Pro Am, but other than that I’m free like a hippie which makes Bam very happy because we go on a lot more adventures. Dude really needs a North Face vest.

  • Speaking of Bam, he is losing his eyesight. He can’t see when it’s really dark, which means he’s been running into things and seems really confused. The other night he was in bed with me (which is a treat for him), Mike came home and he got really excited. He ran to the edge of the bed to jump down like usual, but couldn’t see. He walked back towards me and jumped right onto the nightstand and into the wall. When I rushed over to see if he was okay, and he was running into the wall. After making sure he was fine, I had to laugh.Β So now we’re working with him to learn his new normal, which is depending on his other senses to navigate the house. It would work a lot better if he had it in him to slow down, but that is pretty much impossible for a Jack.

  • Last month we went to LA for the Shape Mag event, I also had an appointment with the IBS Treatment Center in Santa Monica. Mike heard about them, and their claim to cure IBS. We are still kinda skeptical because I’ve always been told IBS is incurable, but it’s worth a shot. Β The test results should be in later this month. I bring this up because I know some of you have similar issues, so I’ll let you know how things go.

  • Have I told you I hired an online personal trainer? I forget. Anyway I’m on my second month of training and I really love it. We’ve been really focusing on strengthening the hips, glutes, quads & hamstrings, along with upper body and some cardio for a nice balance. (Loving spin class!) I already feel stronger and she recently increased my running time this month! She currently has me doing a run/walk. My next goal is to run one whole mile pain free. As you can see, I dream really freaking big these days, ha!
  • I’ll leave you with some pictures from yesterday. There was a high surf & sneaker wave warning, so we drove out to Pacific Grove to watch the best show in town.

  1. I am sorry to hear about Bam. Poor dude. I have no doubt you and Mike will do everything you can to help him adjust to losing his eyesight. PLEASE keep us posted on the IBS. Like you, I suffer from IBS-C and take Linzess and Xifaxin every 2 months. I am constantly working on keeping myself pain free. It’s a journey that is for sure. I hope you find some answers. Awesome news on the workouts and getting back to running! Are you still hitting up the pool? I am still going 1/week but usually up that to 2/week in the winter when snow forces me inside. I am so excited to T-Day! It’s by far my favorite holiday. Food, wine, football and that is the day we put up our tree. It’s pretty much a perfect day.

    • Thanks lady. And yes, I will update the blog when we hear something. Gut issues are the worst. Hope you’re doing well. I haven’t been in the pool, but the last week I found myself dreaming about getting in, (I’m doing a ton of strength training right now) but didn’t bring my swimsuit. I’ll have to make pool running happen this week.

      • I am starting to do a ton of strength training too! I am actually excited about it and my body loves it. Wish we would workout together πŸ™‚ Hope you can get back in the pool this week. Remember how healing the water is!! Take care of you.

  2. We came out to Monterey for the Big Sur Half last week and I will have to say your pictures do not lie! It was beautiful!

    • Congrats!! That course is amazing, right? We went to that stretch along the coast in PG twice this weekend to watch the storm surge. Really, it’s breathtaking anytime though.
Where did you eat? Where did you site see?

  3. I started a new job two weeks ago and I’m miserable. I wish I could just be happy and not spend such a large part of life in a horrible career. For thanksgiving, my family is going out to dinner at this cute small town inn. Should be fun. I’m also running a turkey trot 5k that morning to burn a few extra calories in preparation for the big feast lol. Sorry about Bam. Is he elderly? Hopefully he will adjust quickly.

  4. Hey there! I still have been trying to run again. I’ve done a few 5ks ( by that I mean walk them). I am also working on different treatments to get my leg to work again.
Sorry to hear about Bam! Do they have seeing eye dog for dogs?
Thanksgiving is simple at our home, My husband cooks, the boys and I eat! we are probably going to run/walk a 5k that morning to ease up on some guilt! πŸ™‚

    • Ahhh I’m so happy you are still making progress and are working hard to get back to running!! Keep your pics coming on Insta, you are truly inspiring.
PS I vote we get Bam night vision goggles. πŸ˜‰

  5. That view of the ocean! Beautiful!!! I want to crawl through my screen and have seat with my coffee. Glad you are working up to running again.

  6. Sorry to hear about Bam – hope things turn around soon! I’ll be getting my Christmas tree up the first weekend of December – I just love to enjoy the tree by the fire, makes the season last longer!

  7. Hi J,
Have you tried an elimination diet to figure out what is causing your IBS? I hate to say it, but coffee could actually be upsetting your intestines and digestive track πŸ™ There are so many diet plans for people with IBS, I would give one a try for 2 months and then slowly add in possible irritable foods one at a time to see if it affects you
